Tooth Number Three Has Arrived
While Will was protesting and getting irritable for being at the doctor for the 6th time in 7 days Bill noticed that tooth number three has broken through his gum line. It is his left upper front tooth and it looks like the right upper front tooth will be breaking through any day now. He hasn't seemed overly fussy with any of his teething so far. But can you give the boy a break? Not only has he been having respiratory issues the past week, but his teeth are trying to double their count at the same time. Hopefully he will have a break from teeth erupting and being sick with bronchiolitis real soon.
Nebulizer Professional
The last week has been very hectic and a bit scary in the Zink household. We started Will on the nebulizer last Thursday and he seemed to be doing well with that. Saturday night he came down with 104.7 fever. We called the doctor's and they said to give him some Tylenol and check his temperature in two hours. The fever decreased but on Sunday morning when he woke up his eyes were glued shut. We called the doctors office again and they said to bring him in. He was given another nebulizor medication to add to his regime and some eye drops.
Sunday night his fever was up to 105.1 so the doctor's recommended we take him to the Emergency Room. After being there for 5 hours, he was diagnosed with Severe Bronchiolitis. They did a chest radiograph and an RSV/ flu swab and all three of those were negative. He was sent home with some steroids and alternating Tylenol and Motrin for the fever.
We went for a recheck at the Pediatricians on Monday and they said he was still pretty wheezy so we were to nebulize every 4 hours around the clock. This morning while I was nebulizing him I noticed he was breathing really fast and was using his abdomen to breathe. I called the doctors and they had me give him a second treatment. Once we saw there was no change with the second treatment, they recommended we take him back to the Emergency Room. 2 1/2 hours later we were discharged with no additional medications. But they reassured us that everything we were doing was what we needed to do to get him better.
8 days later we may be finally seeing some improvement. We did not hear much coughing at all overnight last night and he ate a descent dinner and breakfast today. Surprisingly with as sick as he has been, he has still been his happy self for the most part. Once we overcome this bug the doctors are planning to keep him on a nebulizing medication once a day for the duration of the winter. I guess this is farely common, especially in preemies. It has been mentioned that this is how asthma starts in babies, but we are keeping are fingers crossed that he has just got another cold that went right to his chest. Hopefully he will be 100% healthy really soon; it is so hard to see your baby so sick.

Will's 1st Diaper Rash
Will has come down with his first diaper rash, and it is a bad one. We are very fortunate that it took him over one year to develop one, but it would have been nice to say he never had one at all. We started to notice it while we were in NJ and it got worse every day. We called the doctors office and they gave us a few recommendations. After doing that for a few days and seeing no improvement, we decided to take him in yesterday afternoon. Yesterday morning we noticed he was starting to cough again, so we mentioned that to the doctor as well. Back in December he had to go on a nebulizer for about two weeks because the cold he had caught made him wheeze. I guess the wheezing was back, so we got sent home with some more Albuterol and some triple paste diaper cream. He weighed 21 7 1/2 oz when we took him in for the diaper rash and cough.

Trip To New Jersey
Will took his third trip to NJ this past weekend. We stayed with Will's Great- Uncle Pat and Great- Aunt Linda. We got to visit with Great- Grandpa Wallace and Will's second cousin Marc. Unfortunately Marc's brother Jason, his wife Heather, and their three month old daugher Cameron were out of town that weekend, so we did not get to meet Cameron.
My best friend from veterinary school Nancy had her baby shower on Saturday, and conveniently only lives about 45 minutes away from Pat and Linda's house. Want to talk about dejavu... Nancy gave birth to her son Louis 7 weeks early on Will's 1st Birthday, January 1, 2009. Unfortunately Louis was still in the NICU so we did not get to meet him. But Will hopes his new little friend makes great strides every day and that he can come home soon. Once Louis is out of the hospital and they are ready for visitors Will and I will make another trip down to NJ so Will can meet his new little friend. When we go to NJ next, we hope to finally meet Cameron as well. We had a nice visit to NJ and it was so good to see everyone.

Will's 1 Year Checkup
Will went for his 1 year doctor's appointment today. He weighed in at 20 lbs 15 1/2 oz and was 30 1/2 inches long. He only had to get 1 shot today, his Hepatitis A shot. As long as he stays healthy he doesn't have to go back until his 15 month checkup. He was pretty brave for his shot and only gave out a short cry. Grandma and Grandpa Zink came over for dinner and to give Will a little extra TLC after his shot.

Will's 1st Birthday Party
Will had a great 1st Birthday Party. We rented out a local pavilion to have the party at. It was a great venue with a gas fireplace and tons of room. Several of Will's friends came, along with lots of family and friends. He received lots of great books and wonderful presents. We hope to see everyone again soon. Can we say photo overload?

Will's 1st Haircut
Today Will went for his first haircut. Mommy still was not ready to have his curls cut, but she was sick of listening to daddy say that Will was going to be mistaken for a girl, so she gave in. We took him to this really cute hair salon that is geared towards toddlers and small children. Will did really well for the haircut and did not fuss once. Mommy did pretty well too; she was too busy taking pictures to get emotional about what was really taking place. We will definitely take Will back there for future haircuts.

Happy 1st Birthday Will!
Will had a great 1st Birthday. We had several people over New Years afternoon to celebrate his special day. Grandma and Grandpa Wallace, Grandma and Grandpa Zink, Great Aunt Donna and Great Uncle Bruce, Aunt Robyn and Uncle Jeff, Will's cousins Rylie and Avery, and "Aunt" Rebecca and "Uncle" Matt all came over to make it an extra special day for Will. Uncle Tom, Aunt Meghan, and cousins Erin and Jeffrey were unfortunately en route from VA, but they were able to celebrate Will's birthday later that evening.
After the Birthday Celebration at our house, we headed over to Grandma and Grandpa Wallace's to await Uncle Tom and Aunt Meghan's arrival. Once they arrived we all at pizza and then celebrated Will's birthday with them.
